With version 1.2, Maintenance Mode Manager (MMM) takes another step towards becoming a natural extension of daily work in Dynatrace.
This release is not about introducing one large, eye-catching feature, but about removing friction, improving visibility, and making maintenance actions safer and easier in practice.
The focus of version 1.2 is simple: reduce context switches, improve clarity, and support both planned and reactive maintenance workflows.
Putting hosts into maintenance where it makes sense
In daily operations, maintenance actions often start from a problem, an alert, or an investigation of a specific host.
With version 1.2, MMM can now be opened directly from the Dynatrace context menu.
When viewing a HOST entity, you can use “Open with…” → Maintenance Mode Manager to immediately create a maintenance window for that host.
This avoids switching between screens or manually searching for the correct entity, and aligns MMM more closely with the way Dynatrace itself is used during investigations.
Clear distinction between planned and unplanned maintenance
Not all maintenance is planned in advance. Sometimes action is required immediately.
MMM 1.2 makes this distinction explicit in the rules overview:
- Planned maintenance windows are shown as before
- Unplanned maintenance windows are clearly marked with a red UNPLANNED label
This visual distinction provides immediate context for operations teams and makes it easier to understand why a maintenance window exists — especially during incident reviews or post-mortems.
More insight into maintenance rules, without leaving the overview
Understanding what is in maintenance, and why, should not require navigating through multiple screens.
In version 1.2, maintenance rules can be expanded directly in the rules overview. This shows:
- Comments associated with the maintenance window
- Which hosts and/or tags were put into maintenance using MMM
This makes it easier to validate configurations at a glance and reduces the need to open separate detail views.
Improved tag handling and preview clarity
The Tags page received several usability improvements:
- A clearer preview of the affected entity types
- Consistent visualization when no tags or values are present
- Fixed hover behavior so full tag names are always visible
- Improved dropdown behavior to prevent values from being cut off
- Type-ahead filtering in tag selection fields
These changes are small individually, but together they make working with tags noticeably more predictable and less error-prone.
Visual context for multi-tenant environments
Many operations engineers and consultants work with multiple Dynatrace tenants at the same time.
MMM 1.2 introduces a configurable footer signal color, allowing each tenant to be visually identified at a glance.
This is not a status indicator, but a contextual safety measure — helping to prevent actions from being performed in the wrong tenant, especially when several environments are open side by side.
Stability, correctness, and future readiness
Alongside visible changes, version 1.2 also includes:
- Fixes to ensure only actual hosts are shown (excluding Kubernetes pods)
- A correction to audit log handling when ending maintenance via the UI
- Updated Dynatrace libraries and an updated user manual
- A settings schema update (from 1.0.5 to 1.0.6)
- Initial groundwork for upcoming changes in the Dynatrace maintenance platform
These changes help ensure MMM remains reliable today and compatible with what Dynatrace introduces tomorrow — without requiring changes from end users.
A release shaped by real-world usage
Several of the improvements in version 1.2 are the result of practical feedback from users working with MMM in production environments.
Rather than adding complexity, the goal of this release was to refine existing workflows and remove obstacles that slow teams down.
Maintenance Mode Manager 1.2 is therefore best described as a workflow-focused release: quieter on the surface, but meaningful in daily use.
